Moon: An unknown world

Many questions have arised about the Moon, and its role on Earth. The Moon plays a critical role for our planet, as its strong gravitational pull is essential to stabilizes our planet’s axial tilt, which results in stable seasons as well as a relatively consistent climate. In addition to this, the moon is also the main cause of the Earth’s ocean tides. Due to its gravity, it creates two bulges of water on opposite sides of our planet, which results in these things called high tides, as the Earth rotates.

The moon contains a wide variety of interesting facts and cool details. One key fact is that the footprints on the moon will last for millions of years. This means that the Apollo astronauts' footprints as well as their equipment will be placed in the moon’s history for many years to come, due to the Moon not containing any atmosphere, wind, or weather to erode them. Another cool fact is for a very long time, the moon was thought to be very dry. Although, recent results from missions have shown the presence of water ice trapped within permanently shadowed craters at the poles. Finally, many astronauts who returned from the moon noticed that the powdery lunar dust that was on their suits had this distinct smell often described to the likes of burnt gunpowder.

In conclusion, not only are there many cool unknown facts about the moon, but it plays a crucial role in the sustainability and functioning of our planet.
